Mother’s Day- where did the tradition of sending flowers come from?
When is Mother’s Day you ask?…. Well that may depend on what country in the world you are in? Different countries celebrate Mother’s Day on different dates. In the UK Mother’s Day, or Mothering Sunday as it was originally known, falls on the fourth Sunday of Lent, which is three weeks before Easter. But if you are in the US- this always falls on the second Sunday in May. And if you are in France- this is the last Sunday in May…. Spain the first Sunday in May. So, the date itself may move depending on where you are in the world- unlike Valentine’s day which is the world over…

Bouquets to spread joy
So here we are on day 147 of Lockdown…. It may feel like day 1047 for some, but we are slowly but surely returning to some normality. Weddings for 30 people can now commence, and hopefully we will soon be seeing this figure increase for those who just cannot trim the guest list down. In the meantime, I have been sending out anniversary, birthday and “just because” bouquets…. One because I hate saying no…. and two because I love any excuse to get my fingernails green again. Being a florist is more than putting together the stems…. It’s the sentiment…. And spreading the joy. I recently delivered to one lovely…

Blue Wedding Flowers
I think I spy a theme….. for 2021 weddings I have been having an awful lot of enquiries based around a blue theme. I will always have a flurry of all white weddings, and blush, and the wacky vibrant mixtures- but the resounding queries are telling me blue is the colour of choice. Here are some ideas for blue wedding flowers Whether that be blue bridesmaid dresses…. Or the flowers themselves and I’m not talking just a touch- for the “something blue” element of the day…. I am talking BLUE. “They don’t grow blue flowers” I hear you cry…. Well that you are mistaken my friend. I am not a…

Nobody Panic! Love isn’t cancelled
Well who could have seen this coming? The global pandemic that is Covid-19 has ground to a halt many industries- one of which being the hospitality and wedding sector- of which I happily belong. Nobody panic! Love isn’t cancelled! The wedding itself may just be on momentary pause while we adjust and adapt to a new kind of normal- one which hopefully will not involve face masks featuring in your wedding photography that is. One of my lovely couples decided to mark their original date by asking all family that they lived with to don a wedding dress from Ebay- budget no more than £40- (including the gents), and set…

The origins of Valentines Day
The origins of sharing your feelings on Valentines Day (14th February) have many roots through ancient times. It was seen as a time when lovers express their affection with gifts. Valentines Day has origins in the Roman festival of Lupercalia, held in mid-February. The festival, which celebrated the coming of spring, included fertility rites and the pairing off of women with men by lottery. At the end of the 5th century, Pope Gelasius I replaced Lupercalia with St. Valentine’s Day. It came to be celebrated as a day of romance from about the 14th century. During the middle ages- in France and England- mid February was thought to be the…
